DAW Evolution II : Cakewalk - Past , Present , Future !
Hosted by Vin Curigliano of AAVIM Technology , I am joined by guest
co-host Pete Brown of Microsoft and special guest Noel Borthwick,
from BandLab Technologies, who leads the Cakewalk development
team.
We cover Noels musical and technical journey that lead him to Cakewalk , navigate the history and ongoing development of the the different iterations and incarnations of the DAW over a 30 year history, and discuss Cakewalks pioneering work in areas such as Windows 64Bit support, WASAPI, as well as its expanding role within the greater BandLab ecosystem
We dive into the ongoing challenges of staying ahead of the
constantly increasing curve of multiprocessors, multicore load
balancing and low latency DAW performance. We detail some cool
patented new features in that area, and also cover some recent
issues associated with MMCSS thread limiting , that highlighted
that not all developers have the same dependencies and/or
challenges when dealing with that level of processing.
We also weigh up the pro's and cons of the various cross platform
driver protocols, and much, much more.
